Skilled – Regional Sponsored Student Visa (subclass 487)

This visa subclass is for students who have completed their studies but who do not have the points required for the Skilled – Independent Student or Skilled – Sponsored Student visa categories. Applicants must undertake to live and work in a regional or low population growth area of Australia for the duration of their visa.

The subclass 487 visa is a temporary visa valid for a period of 3 years and it requires State or Territory Sponsorship. State or Territory governments undertake to sponsor applicants where those applicants have skills and qualifications which correspond to skills in demand in their state.

Applications for the Subclass 487 visa are performed in three (3) stages:

We confirm that York Immigration Services Australia is able to act on your behalf in relation to all stages of this process.

Permanent Residency

Once an applicant has held a Subclass 487 visa for the duration of two (2) years and worked in a related area to their nominated occupation for a period of one (1) year, they may become eligible for permanent residency through the grant of a Skilled – Regional (Residence) visa (subclass 887).

Alternatively, an Applicant may obtain sponsorship for permanent residency through the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 857).
